SBYFL League Cup Quarter Final
Result: St Mary's FC 5 Albion Star 1
St Marys started off this quarter final tie in determined fashion with a semi final spot against SOPYC at stake. Having stuttered in recent games the good pitch suited the fast flowing game and numerous chances were created for Kevin Meighan and Michael O'Reilly before Kevin opened the scoring on 15 minutes. The first half continued with Tony McVeigh and O'Reilly again going close. However, the half time score remained only 1 - 0 with Albion creating a couple of breakaway opportunities and Warren Patterson having to be on his toes to make the saves.
Second half though was only 1 minute old when McVeigh and Kevin Meighan combined to set up O'Reilly for the second. The game continued with further attempts by Kevin Meighan before Ryan McAuley clinched the third. Albion pulled one back but a McVeigh shot made it 4 - 1. The pressure continued with James Cachart having a couple of unlucky misses before Albion conceded a penalty and a man sent off for deliberate hand ball. O'Reilly's penalty though was saved and it needed McAuley to finish off the day with a fine strike from well outside the penalty area to secure the comprehensive win.
