St Mary’s U12’s Match Report 10th November 2007 - against Aquinas- Defeat 4 to 1
Nearly our strongest line up to face Aquinas and like the recent game against the Reds had chances and good play, but again lost the first goal, a deflected cross that hit off Ruairi Donaghy's back. A couple of minutes later we lost a poor goal from a corner swung in from the right and a free header on the six yard line which neither Oran in goals or right back Fintan could stop. That's what happens to this side at present, lose too quick goals near half time. In saying that I felt that Gregory and Paddy upfront should have got us a couple of goals, to be fair the lads at the back for Aquinas did well.
Into the second half the game was even for the opening 10 minutes. St Mary's central defenders Conor Morgan and Ruairi were excellent and starting to carry the ball into the midfield to help our attacking efforts. In this period though we lost a goal with a right wing cross and a glancing header, a few times we were close with Paddy McD, Oran Eastwood and Ruairi Donaghy. Aquinas scored a 4th on the break. We got our goal from a set piece Paddy McD was brought down 19 yards out, and took the free kick himself which was headed off the line by the Nos 3 from Aquinas, but great reaction by Ruairi to head in the rebound.
