St Mary's retained their position at the top of the South Belfast Under 17 Premier division after this convincing win over Aquinas at Hydebank.
Having suffered their only defeat to this opposition earlier in the season St Mary's were determined to avoid any repetition and took the game immediately by the scruff of the neck creating repeated chances. Deadlock was broken on 15 minutes when a Michael Fearon free kick was headed home by Jim Boyle. Conor Saunders from a corner then had another header on target but this was cleared off the line whilst Kevin Meighan saw a fine effort saved. However, Kevin soon broke clear on 35 minutes to deservedly score his first ever goal for St Mary's. On 39 minutes a good ball into the danger area by Ryan McAuley left Michael O'Reilly free to beat the goalkeeper and leave the half time score 3 - 0.
When a Conor Devlin long ball early in the second half allowed Michael O'Reilly to get his second of the game this signalled the decision by manager Dessie Donnelly to give all the substitutes playing time. It was one of these substitutes, Chris Walsh, who scored the fifth goal after more good approach play on the right hand side by Michael Fearon, John Meighan and Ryan McAuley.
No further goals were scored after this but the team took the opportunity to play some great possession football with every player getting fully involved.
