As per previous encounters between these sides this Under 17 NIBFA cup match turned out to be another very tight match with an exciting finish.
The first half saw St Mary's enjoy a lot of possession but Oldpark defended well and there were no clear cut chances for either side with Chris Boy excellent for the St Mary's rearguard.
Second half was equally committed but on 45 minutes Declan Hackett managed to toe-poke a through ball from Hugh Campbell past the Oldpark substitute goalkeeper. Oldpark responded and one brilliant solo mazy run by Danny Mooney almost created a chance but was blocked off just as he was ready to shoot. It looked at this stage that St Mary's had done enough to win but in the last minute a cross whipped in from the right wing deflected off the unfortunate St Mary's Michael Donaghy to send the match into extra time.
Extra time couldn't separate the teams and it all came down to the penalty shoot out where St Mary's held their nerve with goals from Fearon, Lunney, Hackett and finally Devlin clinching the victory. Hard luck to a brave Oldpark team but it's St Mary's who progress to the next round.
