Match Report Saturday 1st March 2008 Under 17s Result: St Mary’s FC 0 SOPYC 1

This SBYFL Premier Division Under 17 top of the table clash saw both sides fully committed from start to finish. Unfortunately for St Mary's despite controlling much of the match it was a last minute breakaway goal that separated the teams on the day and left West Belfast's SOPYC now 5 points clear.

The first half was tight and saw few chances although Ryan McAuley and Michael O'Reilly both went close for St Mary's. At the other end the back four of Michael Fearon, Declan Hackett, Conor Saunders and Daniel Lunney kept a firm stranglehold on the opposition forwards.

After the break St Mary's again piled on the pressure with O'Reilly again firing just over after good work in the air by Hackett. However, SOPYC threatened on the break and Warren Patterson, who had a great game in goals, was called upon to rescue his team on a couple of occasions.

Still St Mary's pressed for a crucial breakthrough but it wasn't to be with SOPYC clinching that heartbreaking winner in the very last minute.

St Mary's still have to play the leaders once more but in the meantime are reliant on another team taking points off SOPYC. So come on Oldpark!!
