Match Report Saturday 16th February 08 - Result: St Mary’s FC 2 Carrick Rangers 0

There was no doubting the total dominance enjoyed by St Mary's in this SBYFL match as they retained their position at the top of the league.

At the back Declan Hackett along with Michael Donaghy maintained a blanket defence. Hackett also proved St Mary's most potent attacker at set pieces. However, it was only in the last minutes of the first half when a loose ball on the edge of the Carrick penalty area was struck home hard and low by Ryan McAuley to give St Mary's the lead.

Second half continued as before with Kevin Meighan and Michael O'Reilly running the Carrick defence ragged. Hackett again was unlucky not to score but on 65 minutes St Mary's were given an opportunity from the penalty spot to make the game safe but Chris Walsh fired his kick over the bar. On 70 minutes though a great shot by Tony McVeigh was parried out by the goalkeeper. Meighan reacted quickly and chipped the loose ball to the far post where Walsh nipped in to head home number two.

St Mary's thus continued their winning run and now look forward to this week's NIBFA cup match away to Derry's Foyle Harps.
