Match Report Saturday 10th November 2007 - Under 17 Result: St Mary’s FC 2 Rosario 0
Despite missing a few regulars St Mary's started well and enjoyed the major share of possession with Chris Boy dominating the midfield. Two first half chances fell to Ryan McAuley and then Chris Walsh who were both unlucky to see their efforts come back off the right hand post.
St Mary's continued the second half strongly with Rosario hitting on the break. Good work by Daniel Lunney on the left freed Michael O'Reilly to weave his way into the penalty area and force a fine save. Soon after a strong header by Declan Hackett appeared to have given St Mary's the lead but the referee ruled the ball had not crossed the line. Then a free kick award saw McAuley strike narrowly over the bar.
Finally a goal arrived on 60 minutes when Declan Hackett shot from 25 yards out. Rosario's goalkeeper saved well but couldn't hold the ball and Michael O'Reilly quickly followed up to slide the loose ball home.
St Mary's sought the second clinching goal but Rosario still took every opportunity to hit them on the rebound. Indeed in the last 5 minutes Conor Devlin was forced to make two outstanding saves.
In the final minutes though, with Rosario now reduced to ten men, Ryan McAuley finally finished the game off when he cut in from the left to crash a fine shot past the Rosario goalkeeper.
This victory sees St Mary's maintain their position at the top in the SBYFL Premier Division.
