9th of February 2008 Match Report - St Marys 2 - OldPark Swifts 0
Cherryvale was the venue for this North Belfast derby. St Mary's proved the hungrier team as they took full control of the game from start to finish. Declan Hackett was playing up front and proved a real handful throughout the match whilst Chris Boy put in a faultless display.
Despite dominating the first half St Mary's had to settle for 0 - 0 at the interval. However, the half time introduction of Kevin Meighan added another burst of pace and chance after chance arose. Midfield was totally controlled by Hugh Campbell, John Meighan, Ryan McAuley and Antoin Rooney. Both Kevin Meighan and Ryan McAuley had excellent strikes but the deadlock was only broken when a McAuley free-kick was parried by the goalkeeper and Declan Hackett pounced on the rebound to fire home.
Oldpark tried to respond but a deflected cross was well saved by Conor Devlin.
The second goal arrived when a corner from McAuley was met by the slightest of touches by Kevin Meighan to sneak in at the near post.
Manager, Dessie Donnelly was delighted with the overall St Mary's team performance that has now regained top spot in the league.
